Gender-specific schools: Discriminatory? Effective?

It looks like tough times are ahead for a proposed all-male charter school that is intended to address the educational crisis among black males in Wisconsin. The state department of public instruction has concerns that such as school would amount to discrimination against girls. I'm not as worried about the girls as the boys -- are these young men going to learn how to be mature and socially-aware if we exclude half the population from their school experience? What other "distractions" are we going to eliminate next? Windows?

Jack, as usual, disagrees, and sees the exclusion of women from the classroom as having great potential in getting guys to focus on their studies.
